Dear Residents of Luverne,
I am excited to announce my candidacy for the position of Mayor of the City of Luverne.
As a longtime resident of Luverne, I have witnessed the incredible spirit of our community and the hard-working individuals who make this town a special place to live, work, and raise our families. It is with great passion and a deep commitment to our future that I seek to bring my experience and vision to the mayor’s office.
A little about me: I married my college sweetheart, Randy Smyth 36 years ago and moved to Luverne for the second time in my life. My parents moved us here when I was a small child. My Dad was the Hospital Administrator and my Mom worked in the lab. My brother Steve and I went to school here, took dance lessons and enjoyed playing with the neighborhood kids. We moved due to Dad’s work but reconnected with many of my friends in college. Fast forward, Randy and I married and have a son, Rann, whom we are very proud of. It was a joy to raise him in this small town environment which puts an emphasis on Faith, Family and Fun.
Throughout my years in Luverne, I have been actively engaged in community service and local initiatives that uplift our Community. My work as a City Council Member for the past 9 years has equipped me with the municipal knowledge, insight and skills needed to navigate challenges, build confidence, and drive purposeful plans for the future. I believe in the power of collaboration, and I am dedicated to listening to each of you—hearing your concerns, understanding your needs, and building relationships.
As your mayor, I will prioritize:
Community Engagement
I am committed to renewed trust, transparency & technical advancement in our City Government. We have a rich history to be honored, but it’s essential to be current and forward focused in our outlook for the future.
As with most towns our size, repairing and maintaining an aging infrastructure is a top priority. We are fortunate to have grant funding to assist us with the financial responsibility and the knowledgeable manpower to accomplish our goals in this respect. We must plan now for the upgrades and needs for the future.
I am committed to creating an environment where local businesses & industry can succeed. By supporting entrepreneurship, attracting new investment, and educating students on skilled employment opportunities, we can continue to create jobs and boost our local economy.
The safety and well-being of our residents will always be a top priority. I support our law enforcement and first responders to ensure that Luverne remains a safe and secure community for everyone. Supporting our local rural hospital and healthcare agencies and workers is a top concern.
Our children are our future. We must invest in educational opportunities and recreational programs that empower our youth and prepare them for success. Our parks should promote opportunities for our children to learn about respect and leadership in a variety of athletics and organized activities, as well as a safe and pleasing place to play.
Protecting our natural resources, maintaining our small town southern charm with planned and controlled growth opportunities, while promoting sustainable practices will help preserve the beauty of Luverne for generations to come.
Expansion of leisure opportunities, activities for engagement and exercise. Concerts in the Park might be an example and opportunities for newcomers to meet and connect with locals.
I invite you to join me on this journey as we envision a brighter future for Luverne. Together, we can build a thriving community that reflects our shared values and aspirations. Stay tuned for upcoming events where you can meet me, share your ideas, and get involved in our campaign.
Thank you for your support, and let’s work together to make Luverne the best it can be and remain truly The Friendliest City in the South.
